The Commissioned Work: The St. Norbert College Wind Ensemble, directed by Philip Klickman, has commissioned composer John Hennecken write a new trumpet concerto. The premiere will feature Jamie Waroff, who will be joining the St. Norbert Faculty as Trumpet Professor in the coming year. An active performer, Waroff has been the principal trumpet in the Portland Columbia Symphony, Portland Chamber Orchestra, and Salem Symphony. The concerto will be an opportunity for student musicians to gain experience both in performing with a professional trumpeter and in creating new music. The work will be approximately 10–12 minutes long. The ensemble parts will focus on section play of a grade 4–5 level.
Listen to previous works: Hennecken's recent works for large ensemble include Symphony for the Garden Symphony, commissioned by the Augusta Symphony (Georgia), and The Athens Concerto, commissioned by the University of Georgia Wind Symphony and the Modular Ensemble. Hennecken has also written two sonatas for trumpet and piano. Hennecken’s sound concept often projects a sense of drama through clarity of form, forward motion, intricate counterpoint, and the employment of a tonality that utilizes the full consonance-dissonance spectrum.
Cost is $300.00. PDF score and parts will be delivered electronically by January 2019. Names of directors and commissioning institutions will be included in the front matter. For more information, email John Hennecken at email@example.com
